The bar is subterranean [a reaction]

Just a quick update about an upcoming book I’ve been following (and mocking) for quite some time now. The book in question is Putin: His Downfall and Russia’s Coming Crash by Richard Lourie, and it’s developing exactly as I thought it would, perhaps even worse:

An electrifying and timely book, by leading Russian expert Richard Lourie [first time hearing about him – J.T.], that explores Putin’s failures and whether Trump’s election gives Putin extraordinarily dangerous opportunities in our mad new world.

For reasons that are made clear in this book, Putin’s Russia will collapse just as Imperial Russia did in 1917 and as Soviet Russia did in 1991. The only questions are when, how violently, and with how much peril for the world. The U.S. election complicates everything, including:

· Putin’s next land grab
· Exploitations of the Arctic
· Cyber-espionage
· Putin and China
…and many more crucial topics.

Puting: His Downfall and Russia’s Coming Crash is an essential read for everybody bewildered and dismayed by the new world order.

Keep in mind Putin’s original description was this:

Why is Putin still a mystery? He keeps catching us off-guard because we have no feel for his deeply Soviet background and his KGB psychology. His society is as opaque as he is. Crime, government, business, and the secret police are four different things, but in Putin’s Russia they are almost indistinguishable.

Putin’s Russia will collapse just as Imperial Russia did in 1917 and as Soviet Russia did in 1991. The only questions are when, and how violently, and with how much peril for the world.

You know, I was wondering why I couldn’t locate the bar for Russia writing anymore. The bar is subterranean.

(Putin’s expected publication date is July 18th 2017. The Goodreads Giveaway for this book is here if you’re interested.)

  1. Looks like the author is the firm believer in the “Crussionality” and “Downfall of the Regime is imminent” ™ is his credo.

Well, why stop at Russia, I say? Let’s extend the tenets of this religious belief of the imminent crush worldwide and see who else is about to “Fall” any moment now.

Hmmm… Looks like it will be… Britain!

Which country other than Britain has such illustriously horrible history, going from one crush to another? Early Celtic tribes and unions were crushed by the Romans. Then post-Roman abandoned to all winds Britain was crushed and subjugated by the Anglo-Saxon invaders. Now, Britain defined as the collection of the petty bickering Anglo-Saxon kingdoms was crushed and subjugated in turn by the Scandinavians, won an independence for a short time and were promptly Crushed and subjugated by the Normans.

And more crushing to come! The so-called Angevin Empire of early Plantagenets had been squandered by the British version of Gorby and Yeltsin (King John and his son Henry III). Later Plantagenets attempt to re-create said empire crashed and burned in the fire of the Hundred Years War and then the dynasty itself was deposed. Terrible Tudors were terrible at everything – failing miserable in their wars with France (and losing Calais), getting bogged down into the Irish quagmire and failing spectacularly at establishing the colonial empire (Roanoke). Only cheap propaganda and the secret police ensured their survival and higher perception among the descendants.

British Regime established from the time immemorial was Crushed during the Revolution and the Civil War, resulting in Britain acquiring a mutant Hybrid Regime (mirrored by hybrid society). British Empire that took centuries to establish was squandered in just a few decades of the post WW2 history. And now – Brexit and new Scottish Referendum. Clearly – all signs point out that constant Crash is the Norm for the Britain and it is heading towards it! Again.

What I did here, J.T., is a bullshit of the tallest order. It’s a “debate/propaganda” trick known as the “linguistic terror”. It requires 2 (two) things for being successful:

    1) Audience general ignorance.
    2) Propagandon’s enormous chutzpah

The bigger (1) and (2) – the better.

This trick operates on two “takes”. First, we, often absolutely arbitrarily, posit that event X results in Z outcome. Its very important to bludgeon the intended auditory into accepting this first Truth, whether its actually true or not, or whether facts are used as a proof or real/semantic bludgeons.

Having established that “X results in Z”, we then go deeper – we try to convince the people that event X and event Y (a completely different beast whatsoever) are, in fact so similar, that they are equal! There are great many methods to accomplish that – using for X description terms, metaphors and characteristics that could as easily be applied to the Y, while totally ignoring any dissimilarities, then turning this process up to 11 (i.e. flood the audience with X1 = Y1, X2 = Y2… Xn = Yn) until they start to Believe. Once again – ignorance and the sheer shameless gall are your allies!

Therefore, in the end we come to the conclusion that not only “X results in Z” but that “Y results in Z”. That’s just what I did with this book. If the central tenet of the Crussionality is the religious belief that “All this has happened before, and all this will happen again” (c) it could be applied to anything. If a specific terms and language tricks are used to describe Russia (of any time period – they are all the same) then we do the same for some other country and see the results. And, in the end, you (any one of you!) might go and write a best-selling book on the topic of how the UK of Britain’s collapse is only the question of when, how violently, and with how much peril for the world. Insert a chapter or two about how crime, government, business, special interest groups and the secret police are four different things, but in post-Imperial Britain they are almost indistinguishable.
